Mission

This project is formed around the wish for living in Manhattan in a residential apartment building. We are looking to live fully engaged with people of diverse backgrounds and all ages, away from the anonymity of city life.

In ConcordCommunity we  believe that this engagement is possible, when people pursue common interests and curiosities together and enjoy enriching each other. Just the way it is in university, in ad agencies and any other environment where ideas flow.

Therefore we propose

-       creating a community of people who live engaged lives

-       move together into a building that fits the values and goals of the community

-       engage with the community in the common spaces for cooking & meals, music, painting, play, gardening, yoga (you name it, you find itŠor create it   J )

Community

We are creating a core group of about 15 people who will together further define the characteristics of this intentional community.  This team will recommend and select a group of 150 to 200 members.

Building

We are looking for real estate professionals, bankers and architects to join us in getting the requirements for the building aligned and the project priced and financing planned.

Activity

We are looking for people to join who are interested in creating the incubator for existing organizations in the NYC area. They would need to research and contact partner organizations/non.-profits in order to select them as future collaborators. This incubator will provide programming in the ConcordCommunity buildingıs common spaces for ConcordCommunityıs live-in and external members and provide space for non-profits special projects.

Concord Community Distinctions

Participatory process in the growth of the community. The initial group suggests future members based on values, interests and fit. Possible residents will be invited to group events.

Group and buddy system for support. Residents belong to a group within the co-housing community and buddy-up with a member of a different group.

Common facilities supplemental to the private residences in support of communal activities and smart use of resources. Incubator spaces provided for non-profit organizations in collaboration with ConcordCommunity.

Partner organizations/non-profits support education, collaboration and activism around a healthy, sustainable, creative and inspiring lifestyle for ConcordCommunity members and are the interface to the broader community.

Non-hierarchical structure and decision-making, voting if the group cannot reach consensus after a set number of attempts.

Economic independent residents. There is no shared community economy, nor is the community a source of income for its members.

Barter/gifting as alternative currency that is facilitated through the community where members can exchange contributions for credits.
